The Seeing Eye breeds their own Labrador and Golden Retrievers and German Shepherds. Puppy raising families receive pups at about 7 or 8 weeks of age. At this time the raiser continues to go to meetings for socialization, house train their puppy, teach basic commands such as sit, down, rest, and forward, and expose their puppy to anything and everything. At about 14-16 months old the puppy will go back to The Seeing Eye for their formal training to become a Seeing Eye Dog.
